Hot air bonded products are characterized by high loftiness, excellent elasticity, soft hand feel, strong warmth retention, and good breathability and water permeability. However, they have lower strength and are prone to deformation. With market development, hot air bonded products have been widely used in the manufacturing of disposable products due to their unique style, such as baby diapers, adult incontinence pads, fabrics for feminine hygiene products, as well as napkins, bath towels, and disposable tablecloths. Thicker products are used for making cold-proof clothing, quilts, baby sleeping bags, mattresses, and sofa cushions. High-density hot melt bonded products can be used for making filter materials, sound insulation materials, and shock absorption materials.

Webs composed of thermoplastic synthetic fibers can be reinforced by hot bonding, such as polyester, nylon, and polypropylene commonly used in nonwoven production. Since fibers like cotton, wool, hemp, and viscose are not thermoplastic, webs made solely from these fibers cannot be reinforced by hot bonding. However, adding a small amount of cotton, wool, and other fibers to thermoplastic webs can improve certain properties of nonwovens, but generally should not exceed 50%. For example, a hot-roll bonded nonwoven made from a 30/70 cotton/polyester blend ratio significantly improves moisture absorption, hand feel, and softness, making it very suitable for medical and health products.
